The gateway to the face...Methods on How To Hide Receding Hairline...
If you've read my blog before you know how strongly I feel about my hairline...Originally it seemed like my androgenic alopecia was just causing a widening of my part.... But about two years ago I noticed that my hairline had really started to thin out. THE HORROR!
This prompted me to kick my butt into gear and get serious about my hair loss treatment regimen. I searched for methods to use beyond just my 5% minoxidil foam and I have managed to reqrow quite a bit. If you're interested in the treatments I've used over the past year that really bolstered my hair regrowth then check out my e-Book linked HERE.
However, this post will not be focusing on hair loss treatments. If you're interested in that type of content check the link HERE to view my other posts in this area. Herein we will focus on how to hide receding hairline. Drumroll please!
1. How to Hide Receding Hairline: Clip-On Bangs

I know what you're thinking.... But Riley, I'm not a "bang" kind of girl. That's totally fair... I wasn't either. But then I tried it out and it was a total game changer. If you're not convinced don't worry because this is just method one. But if you're still with me...Here we go...
I think I first became open minded to bangs with an updo when I saw the photos of Kendall Jenner on the red carpet at the American Music Awards. If you're not familiar with the hairstyle I'm talking about I've linked a photo you can view HERE. (Just scroll down a little to the 3rd pic... I have no idea how copyright works with these kinds of photos otherwise I would've just posted it...Sorry. Amateur hour lol.)
Anyways... I loved this wispy bang paired with her sleek top knot. So I thought to myself... Well why not me?
How I achieved this look: I used these human hair bangs from Amazon linked HERE and in the image below. I've also bought some human hair bangs from The Hair Shop for much more money but the amazon ones are actually my favorite and way way less expensive. If you want to see the different types of human hair bangs The Hair Shop offers I've linked their page HERE. The one I own is "the bang."
When I was due for a haircut I took both of these bangs to my hair stylist to do a quick trim and together we placed them exactly where I would want them on my head so she could figure out how short to trim them...But if you are skilled like that and can do it yourself then more power to you!
This is me with the amazon bangs in full effect...

Step 1. When my hair is damp I add my favorite hair thickening cream by Bumble & Bumble linked HERE and pull my hair back into a ponytail.
Step 2. I have the tiniest ponytail. Can I even call it that? It'smore like a rat tail lol. Seriously. So in order for me to achieve this modern looking top knot I use a human hair scrunchy that I've linked HERE and below. I wrap this human hair scrunchy around my ponytail a few times. Then I back comb my own ponytail a little to give it volume and then twist my own hair around the human hair scrunchy and secure it with bobby pins to achieve the top knot.
Step 3. Add those bangs. To make it look realistic I let the front of the bun hide the start of the bangs. You can see in the step by step photo above how far back the bangs are clipped on the head... This way the front of the bun is concealing where you'd clip the bangs. In my opinion this trick makes it look way more realistic.
Step 4. Check you out... Get it girl!
2. How to Hide Receding Hairline: Fill in powders, Hair Fibers, and Sprays
I discuss how I use each of the tools I've linked above in the post HERE.
Out of the above products...the fill-in powder and the edges comb that I've linked above are my staples for thickening up the hairline.
The fill-in powder is way easier for me to work with than a spray or hair fibers especially around where my hair is parted at the hairline. After filling in with powder I will use the edges comb with the side that looks like a tooth brush to diffuse any of the powder that has clumped up or looks noticeably too heavy. Then I use the comb side to separate any of those finer hairs. I may also add a hair mascara like the one I've linked HERE and above to thicken those finer hairs up around my hairline.
As a last step I finish by locking everything in place with some hair spray, and I'm out the door!
3. How to Hide Receding Hairline: Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

(If you're on your phone you may need to click into these images to see the differences between the two). I had scalp micropigmentation performed about a year ago and underwent two sessions. These sessions were targeted at my hairline and around my temples. Since then I have also improved the hair density in this area due to various hair loss treatments but the SMP definitely helped add coverage. For more information about the treatments I've used check out my e-Book HERE.
Initially I thought by having SMP I could say goodbye to hair fibers and fill-in powders forever but this was not the case. I still use the products listed above. But this procedure did give me a little more confidence and I'm definitely happy I went through with it.
For more information about my experience along with background about the scalp micropigmentation procedure, see my post linked HERE.
4. How to Hide Receding Hairline: The Sherry Top Piece

Here it is... The Sherry Top Piece...I love this piece because it's super light weight and flexible which means it lays totally flat against my scalp and doesn't feel bulky. I own a bunch of hair toppers and this is a piece I use for minimal coverage.
I purchased this (12 inch hair length), 100% Human Remy hair topper at the Hair Shop linked HERE. It also comes in 6 inch as well and is perfect for frontal coverage. (I dyed mine to be a better match to my bio hair (that's why there are some stains).
To style, I part this piece and then used some concealer to smudge into the skin base to make a realistic looking part.
But my favorite feature is that "V" shape at the very front of the topper (pictured in the image on the left). This "V" shape is perfect for creating a natural blended look and you can see why in the images of me below.
To style I part my hair and then clip-in the sherry top piece a little to the right of my natural hair parting. Once it's secure, I pull out some of my own bio hair to mask the front of the topper to create a more blended look. Blending with your hairline is so key.
The first image below is me pulling my bio hair out in front of that "V shape" on the sherry top piece. You can see that my bio hair is pretty sparse and so I'll usually add some hair fibers or concealing powder to the frontal area to thicken this up a bit.
This is a quick and easy way to conceal a thinning hairline. But keep in mind this is not a silk top, so the part does not look super realistic. It's listed on the website as a skin base.
In order to create a more realistic looking part I would suggest using some concealer. There are tons of youtube videos on how to do this if you are not familiar. So check them out!

5. How to Hide Receding Hairline: Headbands, Scarves, Braids
Headbands...Am I right? I mean what a gift. There's sporty headbands you can wear at the gym, boho headbands...Head scarves that you can fold in different ways...I totally love these boho chic ones just for a casual day out. You could also pair these with the human hair bun linked above in number 1 for a stylish updo.
I think braided headbands can be so elegant. Especially the fishtail braid... Like, okay princess... I see you... Sometimes I'll pair mine with my hair topper as a way to conceal the thinning in my hairline. One thing I struggle with though is how shiny synthetic hair can be. I find that my favorite way to wear a braided headband is to use my own hair extensions which are human hair.
I will braid the hair extension piece that is meant for the sides of my hair (smaller weft with two clips only) and clip that in at the back of my head and wrap it around the front hairline and fasten it with a bobby pin.
6. How to Hide Receding Hairline: Hats and Beanies
I love these Lanzom wide brim hats. The wool one with the decorative buckle is perfect for fall and I love the straw one to wear for the perfect beach day or while laying poolside. Both styles come in tons of colors and are super breathable and lightweight.. Just perfect for protecting my scalp/hairline whenever I know I'm going to be out in the sun for extended periods of time and don't want to put in effort doing my hair.
I'm always wearing hats at the gym...So you know I had to include a sporty one with tons of color options.
I'll never forget being at the gym and catching my reflection in the mirror and thinking....What is that dark smudge on my forehead??? My hair fibers had found their way down onto my forehead after that sweaty cardio session. No thank you! Hats for me.
